Bears Against Time
A downloadable game
I began my academic journey in 2020 at the Faculty of Engineering at UBA (FIUBA), and even though it wasn't a video game program, my passion started to show in the practical work I had to submit for my first course in algorithms and programming; for which I developed a moderately complex game made in C.
The game is inspired by "We Bare Bears", three animated bears from Cartoon Network, who must find their friend Chloe lost in the forest. At the beginning of the game, a series of questions will be asked to assess what type of bear the player is. Based on this, the player will have different abilities and tools to use (Candles, Flares, and Flashlight).
The player always starts on the left side and must find Chloe in a forest full of rocks and trees that will make us lose time; and candles, flares, and batteries for the flashlight that will help us see in the dark forest and find our friend, whom we must rescue before time runs out and COVID gets her (remember, it was made in 2020). Lastly, there will also be Koalas on the map, which are bad and will take us back to the start.
The characteristics of the different bears are:
- Polar: Due to practicing martial arts and being highly trained, he has the ability to jump over rocks. Because he does yoga and is always ready to meditate, he always carries extra candles with him, so he will start with 6 candles in his backpack.
- Grizzly: Being a park ranger and knowing the paths very well, if he encounters a tree, he can handle the situation faster and lose less time. Also, being an expert in camping and walking in the woods at night, his flashlight will have a longer lifespan.
- Panda: He is a genius at using GPS, which gives him the advantage of knowing Chloe's location after wasting 30 seconds. Since he loves parties, he has 2 leftover flares from New Year's.
